霞む過去や未来は

kasumu kako ya mirai wa
furerarenu jijitsu tonari mata
maboroshi ni naru darou

What these eyes cannot measure –
the hazy past, the future –
become a truth beyond reach, and once more
will fade into illusion

神などいるのでしょうか？
信じてみたけれど
都合良いものじゃないと
つい忘れてしまった

kami nado iru no deshou ka
shinjitemita keredo
tsugou yoi mono janai to
tsui wasureteshimatta

Is there really such a thing as a god?
I tried to believe – but
a god was never so obliging,
and before I knew it, I’d forgotten

亡き者を想えば
悲しいのだけど安心できる
見返りなどいらぬ
そんな矛盾　愛の歴史

nakimono wo omoeba
kanashii no dakedo anshin dekiru
mikaeri nado iranu
sonna mujun ai no rekishi

When I think of those who are gone
there is sorrow, yet I find peace of mind
asking nothing in return
Such contradictions are the legacy of love

行く当てなどないでしょう
それでも　無意味では無い
「ありがとう」この身体
生まれてきたよ

yuku ate nado nai deshou
soredemo mu imi de wa nai
arigatou kono karada
umaretekitayo

I forge on without an end in mind
And yet, my journey still holds meaning
“Thank you,” this body
For having been born!

優しい気持ちはすぐに
忘れがちだけれども
「ありがとう」この気持ち
心に刻んだよ

yasashii kimochi wa sugu ni
wasuregachi da keredo mo
arigatou kono kimochi
kokoro ni kizanda yo

Though I can quickly lose sight of
Even kindness and affection
“Thank you,” for these feelings
That are etched into my heart!

善人にはなれぬ
気付いたのさ　いつしか
できるだけ清々しい
生き方で良い気がする

zennin ni wa narenu
kizuita no sa itsushika
dekiru dake sugasugashii
iki kata de ii ki ga suru

Without being aware of it, I’ve realized
That I can’t make myself a good person
But I have the feeling that
It’s fine to live afresh, just doing what I can

行く当てなどないでしょう
それでも　無意味では無い
